SAM YOUNG’S GUBERNATORIAL CAMPAIGN GETS NATIONAL PRESS FOR USE OF POWERFUL ONLINE BUSINESS TOOL FOR OPEN DEMOCRACY

Independent Candidate for Governor Urges Voters to Participate Online

Glover, VT September 23, 2008 – Sam Young's Independent campaign gained national recognition yesterday for his use of business “crowd-sourcing” software in a political application. His use of the IdeaScale was featured in Adweek, alongside House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Jeff Crank from Colorado’s 5th congressional district. Adweek is a national business publication for the advertising industry.  Young hopes his IdeaScale will foster increased participation in the political process and stir robust debate on the issues.  The new online “town hall” can be found at http://www.vermontvotes.net. The site also offers a way for people to register a vote using an online form.

Using VermontVotes.net gives constituents the opportunity to directly propose ideas to political candidates and fellow voters alike.  In true democratic style, ideas submitted on VermontVotes.net are discussed and rated by participants.  Young declared today, “VermontVotes.net is the beginning of a 21st Century solution to identifying and solving the lingering problems of the 20th Century.  It's time that the forward-thinking people of Vermont take charge of their own future, using their own ideas.”  Young encourages all voters, even those committed to another candidate, to explore the VermontVotes.net website.

Young is optimistic that this new tool will provide Vermonters with the chance to be heard.  His campaign stresses the importance of Independent politics in bringing all voters together to challenge the current political paradigm that has seen cuts in education and important social initiatives in favor of partisanship and corporate interests.

Young explains, “In a world where corporate raiders hold the key to the American treasury and the Republican and Democratic Party have been bought and paid for, it's time we test the power of our online networks.  The technology exists today for a truly open democracy, and VermontVotes.net will be a shot over the bough of the status quo.”  This is an opportunity to use our technology to create more democratic processes and collaborate and network for a better Vermont.
